who we are
The Gathering Place was established in 2018 and is made up of certified staff members and trained volunteers who are dedicated to providing a safe, loving, and stimulating social program for those affected by memory loss (primarily dementia and Alzheimer's disease) Parkinson's disease, and/or other medical conditions.
We gather once a week for four hours at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wetumpka, Alabama, to sing, dance, pray, exercise, do artwork and crafts, and play memory enhancing games and puzzles. We also sit and share a hot meal and conversation. Through these activities and more, we will tap into the gifts and talents of participants and restore a sense of purpose to their lives while simultaneously giving the caregiver a break, or respite, from their responsibilities.
During those four hours, caregivers are free to run errands, attend personal appointments, or just simply relax. Also, a support group led by a qualified counselor meets once a month to provide further support and respite to the caregiver.
